Another picture where I tried to give more attention to the environment. I came up with the creature design first and then decided that it would be interesting and practical for a bright red creature to live on a planet where all the foliage is red. The creature in the image is an eyeless predator that hunts and communicates by body heat.
EDIT: Thank you DA community for the Daily Deviation! Thank you and for making this happen, this is a wonderful Thanksgiving surprise.

Nice work!! Indeed, alien plants need not be green- they could be purple, red, black, or some other color if they use a some other molecule than chlorophyll. It's nice to see a different color from green. Eyeless predators, however, are unlikely on planets where with enough light to see with- eyes just evolve far to easily, and confer far to much of an advantage over eyeless animals, for such organs not to prove fairly universal on Earth-type planets. Earth animals who use senses other than sight use them in conjunction with their eyes, not instead of, after all. That said, this creature's head looks admirably alien due to the exclusion of recognizable eyes. The vegetation and surrounding landscape is wonderfully alien, as is the bluish sun. Truly, this is a beautiful and otherworldly painting- it captures a real sense of the wonders of space and alien planets.
P.S. This slightly reminds me of the opening chapters of A.E. Van Vogt's The Voyage of the Space Beagle, in which the cat-like intelligent Coeurl desperately searches for the trail of the "Id creatures" he had been hunting, just before the Space Beagle descends from the sky- bringing a whole crew of humans from him to stalk. I keep waiting for an ungainly star vessel to come hurtling out of the sky and descend somewhere over the horizon...
